Xinhua News Agency Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine was established in 1958, which is the first comprehensive teaching hospital established in Shanghai after the birth of New China. In recent years, through careful analysis of the medical market, the hospital, as the core hospital, has jointly established the Xinhua Hospital Group with the Third People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine and Chongmingbao People's Hospital; Under the care of leaders at all levels, especially with the strong support of Yangpu District Party Committee, District Government and District Health Bureau, Yangpu District Central Hospital has become a branch of the hospital.
At present, the hospital has 1586 beds (including 358 beds in Shanghai Children's Medical Center), 44 clinical departments, 66 specialties, 8 school level research rooms, 6 diagnosis and treatment centers including nutrition, ultrasound, laser cosmetology, WHO Newborn Health Cooperation Center, Genetic Medicine Newborn Screening and Genetic Metabolism Disease Center of the Ministry of Health, and Newborn Hearing Screening Center of the promotion model unit of the Ministry of Health. In 2004, the total number of outpatient and emergency departments in the hospital reached 2.46 million, and 38916 people were discharged.
Pediatrics has become a key discipline of the Ministry of Education, a key discipline in Shanghai, and a key construction project of the 211 Project of the Medical College of Shanghai Jiaotong University; Pediatric Cardiology has become a leading discipline in Shanghai medicine; Children's Blood Tumor, Children's Health Care and Clinical Nutrition Center have become the key disciplines of Shanghai medicine; Gastroenterology has become a key discipline of the Ministry of Education and a key project of the 211 Project of the Medical College of Shanghai Jiaotong University; Pediatrics has become the third batch of key disciplines of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission; Ophthalmology and general surgery (pancreas) have become the key disciplines of Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine.
Most of these key disciplines and characteristic specialties stand at the forefront of medical science and life science Z, and have won 21 Shanghai Clinical Medicine Awards, which is at the leading level in China. Some of these disciplines entered the world's best hospitals in 2007, ranking first in pediatric hospitals nationwide and sixth in cardiovascular diseases.
