The Second Affiliated Hospital of the Second Military Medical University of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, also known as Shanghai Long March Hospital, is a comprehensive Grade III Grade A hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching and scientific research. The hospital is located at 415 Fengyang Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai, and the Nanjing Branch is located at 200 Jianning Road, Nanjing. The hospital is a unit at the military division level, the leading cadres of the hospital are officers in active service, and the professional and technical personnel are civilian cadres in active service.
On October 1, 1955, the Ministry of National Defense of the People's Republic of China ordered the establishment of the Emergency Department Hospital of the Second Military Medical University. The hospital opened on April 28, 1956 and was located at 515 Hankou Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai. On September 1, 1958, the General Staff Department and the General Logistics Department of the PLA jointly notified that the Emergency Surgery Hospital of the Second Military Medical University was named the Second Affiliated Hospital of the Second Military Medical University. Since then, the hospital has expanded from a specialized hospital to a comprehensive teaching hospital. In September 1959, Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau approved to entrust Changzheng Hospital to manage Zhabei District Central Hospital (trusteeship). The hospital has complete disciplines, including 40 business departments, 29 clinical departments and 11 auxiliary clinics. There are 19 clinical teaching and research offices. There are 7 key disciplines in China, namely, orthopedics, imaging medicine, general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, gastroenterology, traditional Chinese medicine, and integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine cardiovascular (key disciplines of the Chinese Traditional Medicine Administration).
There are three military medical research institutes, namely the Military Orthopaedic Institute, the Military Organ Transplantation Institute and the Military Nephropathy Institute. There are 6 military medical professional technical centers in the Military Clinical Immunization Center, Military Emergency Medical Center, Military Urological Surgery Center, Military Neurosurgery Center, Military Minimally Invasive Intervention Center for Lung Cancer, and Military Family Planning Health and Family Planning Technology Center. Shanghai has two clinical medical centers, namely, the Spinal Surgery Clinical Medical Center and the Acute Trauma Emergency Center. Shanghai has two leading medical key disciplines, namely spinal surgery and craniocerebral surgery. The hospital is the key laboratory for experimental diagnosis of the whole military and the key laboratory for military experimental diagnosis of the Chinese drug clinical research base.

The hospital is the clinical medical school of the Second Military Medical University, which is responsible for the clinical teaching tasks and practice teaching tasks of a large number of medical undergraduates. From 1978 to 2006, 1320 doctors, masters and postdoctoral students graduated from the hospital in 1972. At the same time, the hospital trained 6493 students for the military and local governments.
