In 1953, Nanjing General Hospital Z of Nanjing Military Region opened the specialty of burn plastic surgery, and in 1982, it established an independent specialty, which is one of the early established specialties of burn plastic surgery in China.

Since its establishment, under the care of the health department and hospital leaders of the military region, and with the unremitting efforts of experts and professors led by Chen Yifei, Jiang Huiqing, Hong Zhijian, etc., the department has become an influential department with detailed technology, good equipment, reasonable talent echelon at home and abroad, and has extensive contact and cooperation with orthopedic, cosmetic and burn surgery at home and abroad.
