Difference between IVF and IVF

Test tube baby and test tube pregnancy are the products of modern medical technology, which are used to assist infertile couples to achieve their reproductive aspirations. Although both involve laboratory operation and manual intervention, they are obviously different. This article will elaborate on the differences between IVF and IVF from four aspects: the specific definition of baby, the process of IVF, biological perspective and social ethics perspective.

What is the difference between IVF and IVF

First aspect: specific definition of infant

Test tube baby refers to the baby who combines eggs and sperm in the laboratory and cultivates them to the embryonic stage through in vitro fertilization technology, then implants the embryo into the mother's uterus, and finally becomes pregnant and gives birth successfully. While IVF is an assisted reproductive technology, including in vitro fertilization, embryo transfer and other steps, it may not be able to successfully conceive and deliver the baby.

For an infertile couple, if they successfully conceive and deliver a baby through IVF, the baby can be called IVF. However, if the result of IVF is that embryo implantation is not successful or pregnancy and baby delivery are not possible, this process is only called IVF, and IVF is not formed.

The second aspect: the process of IVF

IVF is a complex medical technology, including the following main steps. First, women receive ovulation promoting drugs to increase egg production. Then, doctors collect eggs at an appropriate time, including ultrasound. Next, the collected eggs are combined with sperm in the laboratory for in vitro fertilization. If IVF is successful, the embryo will be cultured to a specific stage in the laboratory. Finally, doctors will implant the embryo into a woman's uterus in the hope of a successful pregnancy and delivery of the baby.

In contrast, the process of IVF is roughly the same as that of IVF. The only difference is that after a successful IVF pregnancy and delivery of a baby, doctors will give it the title of "IVF baby".

Third aspect: biological perspective

From a biological point of view, there are some differences between IVF and natural pregnancy. First, in IVF, the combination of egg and sperm is carried out in the laboratory, not in the female body. Secondly, the culture environment of embryos in the laboratory is different from that in the uterus. These differences may have some impact on the development and health of infants.

It is also worth mentioning that IVF may be obtained by other assisted reproductive technologies. For example, if in the process of IVF, the fertilized egg passes gene screening or genetic diagnosis before embryo implantation, and certain genetic disease risks are screened, doctors may choose to conduct embryonic gene editing to correct these genetic defects. This is also a difference between IVF and IVF.

Fourth aspect: social ethics

There are also differences between IVF and IVF in terms of social ethics. The purpose of IVF is to help infertile couples achieve their reproductive aspirations and bring them great psychological and emotional satisfaction. However, the emergence of IVF technology has also triggered a series of ethical and moral discussions. Some people worry that IVF technology may be abused, leading to selective reproduction of babies, or the production of artificially manufactured "design babies". These issues have aroused public concern and controversy about IVF technology.

Summary

In general, IVF and IVF are different manifestations of assisted reproductive technology. Test tube baby refers to the baby who successfully conceives and delivers by combining eggs and sperm in the laboratory through in vitro fertilization technology. In vitro pregnancy, however, refers only to the process of assisted reproduction, and may not be able to successfully conceive and deliver a baby. From the perspective of biology and social ethics, there are also some differences between IVF and IVF. In any case, these technologies provide a hope for couples who cannot conceive naturally, but they also need to be explored and standardized in ethics, morality and law.
